Mill Bay Traditional Martial Arts Academy

Tony Greco Ross

Just finding this website now. At the risk of forgetting humility, I must say that if you want to learn not only the how, but also the why of the martial arts, this school, with a lineage of instructors only 4 generations removed from Funakoshi himself, is the place to do it (Funakoshi, Kotaro, Kim, Mortley). As many have said before me, I have been all over Canada, training for some time, and have yet to find a school like this one, where the pure heart and soul of Okinawan Karate still resides. I have nothing but gratitude for what I learned here and how it shaped me into the man I am today. All that said, reality soon sets in and it is pretty easy to forget all those nice flowery words once we actually step into the dojo and become uke. But that is okay, it is worth the price.

I have been training karate at the Mill Bay Traditional Martial Arts Dojo for over two years now and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The atmosphere is relaxed and there is a wealth of knowledge to be learned. One of my favourite aspects about this Dojo is how quickly you can progress when youContinue Reading

I recently returned to Mill Bay Traditional Martial Arts after an absence of 6 years. I missed the practice over those years and looked forward to the time that my busy lifestyle allowed me to return, and I am happy that I made the commitment to myself to return. The dojo is clean, spacious andContinue Reading

Mill Bay has no idea how lucky we are.

This has been a really nice experience for me. I am new to this dojo and the instructor is excellent. I feel very welcome. He is an excellent communicator and very passionate regarding his teachings. Everyone was very kind and supportive at the dojo. Other students encouraged me when I was learning. In all myContinue Reading

The place to train and have fun!

What an honest and down to earth Sensei at this school. I would recommend you try this school if you are interested in getting a good workout, learning self-defense, learning discipline, and having a fun time while learning. I tried a couple of the free trial classes to see if I liked it and IContinue Reading

A hidden jem indeed! I’ve done a number of martial arts before (including having been granted a black belt in kenpo kung fu) and this dojo has excellent instructors and a great dojo with lots of room. I’ve seen the good and the bad and this rates top notch with an excellent, varied style withContinue Reading

Karate really helped me with my breathing, I was able to breathe much more clearly after a long run than before I began training in Karate.

I enjoy Karate cause it’s really fun and helps me with my balance.

“There are so many benefits to karate – it’s not only good exercise, but also develops self-confidence and self-discipline, and is a great way to relieve daily stress.  Lucas is a dedicated instructor who supports his students and encourages them to be their individual best, making the Dojo a great place for both personal andContinue Reading

“My two children ages 11 and 13 have been learning Karate with Lucas. They absolutely love it and I am very pleased with their development and dedication. They respect Lucas and he brings to their instruction much skill and responsibility with the teachings of Traditional Shorinji Ryu Karate Do.”
